[Contained Paintings (Shipwreck)] is a digital print housed within a wooden frame, in which a cropped photographic image of the Statue of Liberty's torch is recontextualized. The torch is partially "submerged" in a block of what appears to be red paint, seemingly censoring or defining its meaning. This piece addresses the idea of freedom, suggesting interpretations surrounding national ideals.
