A safe exists to protect what we consider valuable. Its weight, hardness, and the resistance of its materials construct a promise of security. This safe, however, is made of cardboard: a fragile, everyday, and easily replaceable material, transformed through paint until it takes on the appearance of old, heavy, and rusted metal. The contradiction continues inside. What the safe seems to protect like a treasure is a small golden stone that, in reality, is made of masking tape covered in gold leaf. The work thus constructs a chain of appearances in which each element contradicts the previous one: the metal is cardboard, the stone is not stone, the treasure is a transformed residue, and that which should guarantee permanence is marked by decay.
